I enjoyed this book A LOT! Grey Wars presents a thorough academic analysis of Special Operations Forces (SOF) from a uniquely intimate perspective. Part first-hand account, part in-depth research - this is a look at SOF that I have not seen before. The author deftly balances the need to critically analyze the successes and failures of employing SOF with an entertaining style that captures what makes these warriors so appealing and mysterious.
Obviously based on countless hours of research and interviews, the author provides a balanced assessment of the progress and evolution of special operations capabilities, missions and employment over the last few decades. Any reader, whether veteran or not, will enjoy this book and be better educated on one of America's most effective (and often overused) policy options when they are done reading it.
