Brilliant at this moment in time. However it poses with some uncertainty the level of understanding in Germany as elsewhere as to the level of moral acceptance of German people regarding auschwitz as the crime it really is. Many accept that Germans have embraced and embedded their role in their history.

Fascinating film, however I have serious questions regarding what seem to be recreations by the perpetrators of these murders. The old photographs are convincing beyond question. But these inserted well-filmed segments in color undermine, in my opinion, undermine a remarkable and truly believable piece of documentary history. Even this critique does nothing to change my feelings about ‘ordinary’ Germans. The Nazi regime created a class of ‘humans’ who can NEVER be exonerated for their crimes. I personally am not at this time able to forgive. This includes our relationships today. I write this as I watch the documentary for the first time on another device. I’m also currently reading Timothy Snyder’s “Bloodlands.”

Brilliant, elusive, not always easy to follow, but always worthwhile. Beautifully filmed, great acting. Wish ther were more.
