The show, to me, is fairly standard crime drama fare. What attracted me to it is its biggest weakness: it makes much of its settingโPortlandโbut despite sweeping establishing shots and obligatory references about the city that are nothing more than cliches โmicrobreweries โ โcoffeeโ), it could just as easily be set in Baltimore (shows like โChicago Fireโ have the same problem) l. All of which is a shame, because Iโve lived In Portland. Itโs a unique, weird, wonderful place that could and should almost be a character in and of itself. Look to Comedy Centralโs โSouth Sideโ, set in Chicago, to see how itโs done (Or, to go more old school, โNorthern Exposure). Without that element, it fails to rise above mildly entertaining.
