As a huge Borderlands fan, I have to admit that I was initially disappointed with the movie's casting. After reading numerous reviews, I became skeptical about even giving it a chance. However, I can't say it's a bad movie, nor does it stray far from the essence of Borderlands.
In my opinion, it's a good movie. Yes, the storyline differs from what we're used to, but the ending remains faithful to the games, especially in how Lilith's character arc plays out. I like to think of this movie as a Tiny Tina fantasy—where she reimagines the story with her own heroic twists, yet still stays true to the core narrative.
The cast did an impressive job capturing the essence of the characters, even if they brought their own interpretations to the roles. I was particularly shocked at how well Marcus, Krieg, and Claptrap were portrayed—they looked almost identical to their in-game counterparts. Lilith was also quite accurate, despite some complaints about her looking "older." She still felt like the Lilith we know and love from the games.
That said, Tannis, Tiny Tina, Roland, and Moxxi were a bit off the mark. While their portrayals weren't perfect, I could still recognize who they were, their backstories, and how they connected to the game's universe.
