While this show is good in terms of story depth, spoken histories of Westeros and acting, the problem lies within explanation of characters. There is very little explanation as to who one is within the show, which can be confusing to viewers who are not familiar with “The World of Fire and Ice.” Considering its predecessor was able to shock viewers around the world, HOD has yet to do that for me. It’s lacking in character depth. There is no true attachment to a particular lineage or a certain character. In fact, I loathe the majority of characters in the show with the exception of Rhaenys and Jace. All of the other characters are heavily flawed, have no redeeming qualities, and lack the “oomph” factor many GOT characters had. The attachment to any character is lax. This is the main reason why I give HOD only 4 stars instead of 5. It’s good, but it just cannot beat GOT.
