My all time favorite film. The acting is superb, especially Ben Johnson, Ellen Burstyn and Cloris Leachman. The story set in the early 50’s evokes and simpler time and place. There is no reason for this small Texas town to exist, but the people there eke out what they can find. Ben Johnson’s soliloquy at the pond is the most poignant scene and it won him the Academy Award. I have seen it many times and learn a little something new from each viewing. Not to be missed.
