I’m not really sure how to feel about this. On one hand I think new canon on where our original cast are now is awesome. I’ve only watched a few episodes, so i dont know if they do, but I doubt they say anything about Hyde at all but for good reasons. If they don’t then I feel like I’ll probably get used to him not being there but it’s a weird plot hole.
So, really I love any and just about all scenes with the old cast. Legends, all of them (except Hyde). But watching some scenes with the new cast can be cringy to the point my body hurts. The scene where they’re at the water tower in the first episode and they cheer their solo cups together, made me want to flip my skin inside out. I don’t hate every scene with the new ensemble but it’s difficult to feel invested in the characters at the moment when I’m just watching Leia (Princess Leia, good one foreman) is popping 7 tic-tacs and goes up to the ice cream guy and kisses him. She does that right after Jay basically admits he’s interested in her. Granted he said let’s see what happens, it still just makes me think they’re all a big joke and it’s hard to take it serious. Maybe they’ll address it later i dont know. Also I’d like to say that Leia chasing that ice cream guy into the back was creepy to me. Maybe that was the point I don’t know. Regardless it was weird.
There’s continuity problems so far that are strange. Some points the original cast makes comments to each other like they haven’t talked in 15-25 years. Kitty not talking to Fez for a long time is believable, but the way Donna and Eric have been married for a long time now and kitty just had the conversation with her about being called mom? Stuff like that is just weird to me and sticks out like a sore thumb.
I gotta say though when kitty brought out the old crate of games and I saw candy land, I knew what was going to happen and I’m so happy that it did happen. Seeing Leo again was amazing but kitty even thinking he creeped on the gang was sad. Kitty just doesn’t know Leo like we do I guess. Kitty and Red seem to be the real main characters at the end of the day anyway and are by far the best thing about this show.
At this moment it feels like the new ensemble are trying to live in the shadow of the originals. At the same time I don’t think I’d watched any of it were it not for the original cast being back. Maybe it’ll get better who knows. That 70’s show definitely had its ups and downs but it started out really strong in my opinion and I don’t feel that way about That 90’s Show.
Anyway that’s my essay about That 90’s Show I wrote at 3am instead of doing my college homework
