I give it one star only because it may elicit interest in the history of that time, otherwise I'd give it a zero!
Terrible character depiction, bad acting, awful or inappropriate dialogue, and flat out historically inaccurate in many instances. Particularly embarrassing was the actor playing Lincoln, whose voice alternated between squeaky & monotone, and whose appearance is much younger than he looked (after leading a four year war effort). I couldn't figure out who was playing Stanton until someone addressed him. The fact of the matter is he had a beard (and a large one at that) during the civil war. Also, why would you bother to have other characters look like who they were impersonating and not have Stanton - one of the key personalities in this historical drama - similarly portrayed?
I forced myself to watch the entire first episode hoping it would get better - it did not. I won't be watching any more of it. Thankfully, I signed up for a free 3 month trial subscription to AppleTV so I didn't have to spend any money to watch this.
A truly sorry production, which is particularly regretable given it was drawn from a very good book - I would encourage those interested in this period to read it.
