I bow down to the vision & hard work of M Manikandan. This is one of the best movies ever in terms of depicting the routine life and struggles of a FARMER, our village life, which is the real India, our traditions and culture, and how a village is like a one big doting family.
Personally for me, it's the best I've ever seen and the most I could relate with (because of the parallels between the village life, traditions and rituals of Tamil and Chhattisgarhi village folk). It also depicts very well how the corporates in their idiocy & selfishness have no second thoughts in destroying our ancient culture and places, our spiritual roots.
Acting is super natural. Each & every character, big or small, have made their impact, done total justice to their roles, and are therefore memorable. Nallandi is perfect and natural in his role of a Tamil farmer from a small village, and he so beautifully portrays how the natural routine of a farmer who loves nature, loves his job and is spiritual has all the elements of a karmayogi.
Vijay Sethupathi is fantastic as he always is, and in his cameo makes a lasting impression. In short, he has portrayed, in a somewhat cheeky and romantic manner to add to our pleasure, how a "भक्त" lives.
Lord Murugan (Lord Kartikeya) and his ride peacock are big in this movie. The movie is filled with his essence. And this movie beautifully portrays that God's plans, though they sometimes might apparently seem cruel and terrifying, they are always in the best interests of everyone, especially his devotees, and all the conflicts are meant to elevate us, and as the protagonist demonstrates, one must keep on working in the right direction without complaining, and comparison with what others might do, and regardless of the times whether good or bad.
Even with the runtime it has, it never feels boring, actually far from it, it's one of the most engaging movies I've come across. My parents were very impressed with this movie, and let me tell there are only a handful of movies from past two decades which have impressed them.
For me, this is cinema, this is what movies should be about.
