This is my personal opinion on the film and everyone having different ones is also important. What I also believe is important when watching this movie is that Kit, our main character, is an idea.
When I first saw the trailer, I was immediately intrigued and couldn't wait to watch this movie in a safe place. I say this because I knew I would shed a few tears during this movie...which I did. After I got done watching, I was even more intrigued to find out what others thought of this film because I was sure they'd love it like I did...which wasn't the case. But then a beautiful thing happened while I was typing this review.
A line that was said by The Salesman, Samuel Jackson, that was told to Kit about why Virgil couldn't see the store. The gist of that line was that Virgil wasn't able to see the store because it wasn't made for him. The store was for Kit.
Just like the store, this film was not meant for everyone and that is ok. When it comes to watching this film, some of us are Kits and some of us are Virgils. Believe it or not, it's how life works. If everyone was supposed to like the same things or even think all the same things are good of quality, it would greatly effect or have impact on the differences in our lives that are actually appreciated.
When it comes to commentary on the work its self, it might not have been executed very well. I wont say one way or another because I really could've cared less about that. This film, for me (the only person I'm speaking for), was an idea and point that was being made to the audience. Being a lover of most genres of movies, I do think that some works are bigger than the actors and the ways the lines are delivered or the way they are directed...it just depends if the message can still get delivered past all that.
I needed this movie for my soul and YES, I identify with Kit! Unicorn Store has definitely found its way into my heart in a very meaningful way. Thank you to anyone that had a hand in making this movie a reality.
