Very powerful.
"He found a superpower - music ..."
Takes us into the life of young Elvis singing "black music" in the deeply segregated US in 1950s with all all the huge race tensions.
I am always minded of Elvis's "If I could dream of a better land" and John Lennon's "Imagine". So close, so much in common. The world needs more music and standing up for peace ...
Elvis very brave and radical in his first years singing black music he loved. Played a huge part and lead with others breaking down segregation ...
This came across very strongly in the film, points referred to time and again in documenataries but never before do we see how deeply it affected 22 year old Elvis. Under huge pressure not to "gyrate" but stuck to what he loved with so much hostility and threats ...
So this film for me brings alive Elvis the hero ... and the tragedy - a brave young man coping with enormous personal pressures.
And the end of the film it is commented Parker in later years after Elvis's death paid for his "financial abuse" of Elvis. Spot on, it was financial abuse, but then 1950s and a different age.
A very powerful film - highest credibility brilliant lead actor Austin Butler playing Elvis - the end scenes deeply moving. Greatest credit to producers directors and all actors. And always warmest memories of Elvis in the 50s music on our radios coming from another world "Heartbreak hotel" "Don't be cruel" "Good luck charm" "Wooden heart" and so many more ...
