I used to think Stephen merchant was the talent in the gervais-merchant writing team but having seen both derek and after life, and now this, I've revised my opinion. Not a patch on Ricky's work. The BBC no longer has the monopoly on classic TV (assuming it ever did). I'd have given this no stars but the minimum requirement means I have to award at least one which it doesn't really deserve

Like most modern comedy dramas very average and the fashion to use music tk pad out a script continues. There is enough intrigue and unexpected events to keep viewers hooked but it doesn't have enough laugh out loud moments, pathos or real in depth characterisation to make a a classic. Sitcoms/comedy dramas were once written by scriptwriters who specialised in their craft and didn't feel the need to also act in it. Being a jack of all trades may suggest versatility but it doesnt necessarily equate to quality
