I had no idea until the end that this was based on actual events. The content was horrifying enough as a riveting script and devastating to find such things actually occur in life . The characters were expertly portrayed so that I felt admiration, empathy and deep disgust in turns. Nicholas Cage was brilliant as the honorable and determined Alaska state trooper. John Cusack whom I usually love to watch had me despising the very sight of him he was a vile, inhuman creature. For Vanessa Hudgens as 'Cindy' I was fearful and heartbroken for her sad life and the harrowing circumstances that this film brings forth. This is the kind of movie that stays with you long after you've watched it.

I loved this WWII film. The game of cat and mouse between the Destroyer and the U-boat is done well. I felt both urgency and sympathy for both sides. Curt Jurgens as the German U-boat captain was such an exemplary person I loathed to see him perish. The ending was different than any I've seen in a war movie, showing the honorable side of people despite being at war.
