The most curious thing about this film is the favorable reviews. The stereotype of Puritans as cruel sadists is absurd. The English Puritans who came to America were moral people who founded anti-slavery societies, universities and created the intellectual tradition New England is famous for. They also instituted America’s doctrine establishing the separation of church and state.
