Completely the opposite of what I anticipated. Did not research the movie before going!!! Glad I didn't. It's not dark per say but after getting into the meat of the movie I realized it is a period piece and if you allow yourself to think of the atrocity of that part of history you begin to understand the plot!! Bravo to Helen Mirren's character for turning the screws.... I recommend seeing..but that's O.M.P
