This is the best Metallica album since the Black Album. My favourite Metallica album is Ride The Lightening, and this is easily up there in terms of quality.
Least favourite songs are Barbed Wire and If Darkness Had A Son. All the others are belters.
All members step up to the plate. Hetfield has never sounded better, Hammett has written some epic solos, and he plays a few without the wah which is great. Never had a problem with Lars drumming (it's cool to diss him). Trujillo's bass is sounding fantastic too (particularly at the end of You Must Burn!).
You have the thrash tracks, the black album era, some load & reload tinges, and it has been mixed together to form a cohesive masterpiece.
The production is epic. Makes me hate Death Magnetic's production even more.
Such a fast paced album, with everything you could every want from Metallica. We have lovely guitar harmonies, great riffs, some great vocal melodies and killer rhythm work.
One of their best albums.
