Loved it as I've loved everything Southern Gothic since reading Grubb's Night of the Hunter all those years ago. All the performances in this post-world war 2, gospel-haunted film are mesmerizing and will live long in the memory as will "Hitler's" luger, the timely fifties and sixties soundtrack fixing certain scenes, and the cinematography all of which are great

Earthy but stuffy with an ending more Nicholas Sparks than what is called for it nevertheless resonates as a portrait of the times.

Beyond brilliant; a movie that never seems to date made by a master, a pulse-pounder set to Bernard Hermann's menacing score. Highly considered.
