Mixed feelings. I’m interested in finding out what happens, but the writing is often hard to parse. I find myself reading the same sentences over and over trying to understand the basic layout of what is happening. I think an editor could help him clarify things without sacrificing his style. I also must admit that reading Penpal I felt genuinely creeped out all the way through; not so with this novel, where I mostly feel concerned for and often frustrated with the increasingly unhinged and apparently unreliable narrator. I will finish it though, I am genuinely invested.
