Watched the movie few hours ago and I'm just speechless. It's absolutely incredible how this movie was all smokes and no fire, the trailer fooled us.
Throughout its 150 min runtime, it's hard as a viewer to extract a modicum of emotion. As most people expected in this sub - there was a serious miscast.
Vanessa looked too young as Josephine and Joaquin too old.
Napoleon played by Joaquin Phoenix has no charm at all, his scenes with Josephine are borderline cringe. As someone pointed out, this movie was a slideshow (and a bad one) with no depth to any character at all. There are few battle scenes but at no point in the film you want him to win or lose.
Another aspect of the film that irked me was its background score. It was uninspiring at best and in most cases it made it hard to follow the dialogs and the scenes felt pretty disconnected to the music being played.
I'm outraged at how miserably this movie failed to portray the character or the story of a figure as iconic as NAPOLEON.
Not recommended at all, you'll probably enjoy Oversimplified's video on youtube about Napoleon to be more enjoyable than this movie.
