Could this book be shorter? Sure. Would you want it to? No! Part of what makes these series' great is the colour. Interactions between characters that aren't pivotal to the plot. Sanderson does these so well, and I absolutely love his characters. This is an amazing series. If you think you might like it - YOU WILL! Get on board.
