This movie was nothing short of an absolute disaster. It feels like an absolute waste of time for such talented actors, with so much potential to Gorr’s storyline as the God Butcher.
Thor was one of my favorite characters in the Marvel Franchise. The original “Thor” is absolutely breathtaking, and watching this disappoints me beyond belief.
From the very start of the movie, Gorr’s storyline is underdeveloped. We see him in a desert, suffering, and then quickly turn to him meeting a horribly portrayed “god” who looks more like a head floating over an incredibly fake body… what happened to the incredibly threatening beings like Thanos? Where is the professional quality?
Gorr is now the God Butcher, and yet we only see the aftermath of his deeds. I found myself rooting for Gorr, as he is the only believable character in the whole film- the rest of it being one huge never ending joke.
As soon as Thor is introduced and seen with the Guardians of the Galaxy, the movie loses all possible momentum. We delve deep into Thor’s self discovery, having a new “zen” look and being the punchline of nearly every joke. There was no real depth to his character- his so-called self-discovery is severely underwhelming and overshadowed by the overuse of comedy to the most serious of moments.
Jane Foster comes back, now with cancer and as a “Thor”? Thor is not a title!!! It is a person. Only Thor is “Thor”. Unfortunately, her death and illness don’t cause much of a reaction, as her character is both overused and underused. With the rushed elements of nearly everything that makes a movie cohesive and entertaining. The moments of comedic reflection done by Korg are so incredibly irritating and unfunny. Why the goats?
Thor should be portrayed as a powerful being, overcoming his loss and becoming a better hero than ever because of it- however, Thor is made to be relatable, such is the trend in Disney movies as of late. We are not looking for a “relatable” character. Thor is to be the God of Thunder. Nothing about this movie accentuates the responsibility, severity, or power that such a title carries. His character has taken a severe blow since Endgame, and I’m afraid he’s too far gone. His becoming terminally depressed due to his loss should have been fixed in this movie, and yet his character has been further driven into the ground.
I am so so happy I did not waste my time and money watching this movie in theaters- and to those who have, I am so sorry, you have been robbed.
If you’re looking for a time in which you can watch an almost 2-hour long SNL skit, watch this movie in theaters.
UNBELIEVABLY disappointed.
