Honestly, The Nine Realms is a lot better than assumed by most. The designs feel a little rushed, like some sort of cheap show which it is. And, the dragons could DEFINITELY be designed better for example, Wu and Wei could look more like Zipplebacks. I think if the dragons looked so different from their ancestors then the time gap should’ve been much larger. But, I love the whole ICARIS thing. Like, how the fissure was where the dragons were hiding. And, Hiccup was theoretically correct about humans taking advantage of dragons and such. In the first couple episodes, Dr. Kullersen mentions that Rekko Corp wants to find something big, like a new species (dragons) so they can make a profit margin. There is much more about the show I haven't covered but it’s overall pretty decent.
