If you like horror games and shooting zombies (Resident Evil or Silent hill): this game is perfect for you.
I give this 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Controls are a bit hard to get at first and I recommend starting with the easiest mode if you've never played a horror game before. Normal mode is still quite hard because the game doesn't spare you: You learn it by dying and trying again over and over. So it's a bit frustrating if you've never played the genre.
You will need to solve different puzzles along the way, they require a lot of memorization so YOU'LL NEED A PAPER AND A PEN to write down the clues. It will make them much easier! You also collect notes and items but it's not the main focus. Notes offer a bit of info on what happened in the story.
Shooting zombies is cool, but like Resident evil, the number of bullets you have is limited. If you're not careful, you'll be in a situation where you have no more bullets to defend yourself. So RUNNING is your only option!
The bosses are not difficult to kill, but the controls (with the running and the shooting is a pain in the @$$ in this game) and the manual reloading system is no fun at all. It adds to the difficulty enormously and in my opinion is a bad design choice. It cuts completely your flow of playing.
On the narrative side, don't expect a huge storyline: get in the bad science lab, recover the virus, kill zombies, assassinate all witnesses and get out alive. It's a survival horror game where you just need bullets to shoot your way out and drugs for health when zombies puke on you!
The environment lacks a bit of interaction. There is no physics in this game, which makes everything very static and boring. For example, you cannot bump into chairs, use vending machines, climb ladders, jump on things or shoot and have exploding items. It would have added a bit of fun to it all.
The textures of the game are closer to a PS3 standard. It's not offering Photogrammetry or fully realistic rendering. Yet everything is done on a realistic scale. It's passable for the PS4 but I would have laughed if they had announced this game for the PS5.
So I bought Daymare 1998 perfectly knowing what it was and I've enjoyed it. It's not pretending to be a AAA game but it offers a close AA experience. There is indeed room for improvement but the adrenaline rush coming from the constant danger of being attacked clearly compensates for that.
