As a customer of Amazon Prime I was a Lionsgate subscriber. Then I heard Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was showing on Paramount Plus. Not to be one to waste money on something I'm not gonna watch for a while, I cancelled Lionsgate and switched to Paramount just for the Star Trek thing. For £2.00 a month extra over Lionsgate, I have discovered so much great stuff including His Honor, 1883, and this, Yellowstone.
As a UK bloke, I've always marvelled at the space Americans often appear to take for granted and boy does this show, and it's prequels, highlight just how big, in every way, Montana is. I'd heard Yellowstone is a great show and wanted to give it a try. Then I saw 1883 was the first prequel and, being a sensible bloke, I thought to watch it first. Well, just how brilliant was it? A magnificent western. I fell in love with Elsa (wonderfully played by Isabel May, and literally cried at the end.
Then, along came 1923. What I didn't realise that not all the show had aired so 4 episodes into season 2 and I was stuck. TBH, it's a convoluted story line which only Helen Mirren, lives up to, IMO. Lol. I would say that, wouldn't I given she's a countryman of mine!!! That said, being somewaht impatient by nature, I decided to skip the wait and go straight to the main feature. thinking I'll go back to 1923 later. Man, I love this show. It has it's faults and there are a few loose ends, (or I missed them), but after two days I'm half way thru season 3 already.
I'm not a nitpicker when it comes to TV. It's all about how it holds me and there have been times when I literally have had butterfies. I also think people who don't get Beth should watch season one episode one again.
Kelly Reilly is an excellent British actress who's no more over the top in her role as Beth than Larry Hagman as JR or Linda Gray as Sue Ellen were. (I'm 66 so I remember the show well). Dallas was "OK", but not a patch on this. Beth is broken and mean spirited but hugely loyal to those she respects. As I say, the backdrop is magnificent and one day I hope to see it for myself. Until then, being a lucky boy with a small theatre with a 120 inch screen at home, I'll simply bathe in the reflected screen light. BTW, ST: Strange New Worlds is great also. Very like the original 60s show. So glad I switched to Paramount. Love to everyone and be safe.
