Disclaimer, I have not completed this game. I am several hours in, enough to form an opinion.
I know everyone is complaining about micro transactions and performance issues. Let's set all that aside for a moment and discuss the actual game.
The game is strange in it's own way. Part of it feels ahead of it's time and innovative. Such as the pawn system and how much it encourages you to explore. On the other hand, it feels outdated and clunky. Mostly in the graphical department and traversing the world.
The combat, while sometimes infuriating is pretty solid. It's fluid, challenging, and diverse enough to keep things interesting. The class you choose really invites you to do your job, as it does with your fellow pawns. If you don't work together, it's a hard way to go.
This game does not hold your hand. It throws you out there and says have at it. I think my biggest gripe is it doesn't give you any sense of direction. It really just encourages you to make your own way. While my personal preference is to have some sort of direction, I understand some people would enjoy this way. However, I would find it more tolerable if traversing wasn't so clunky and the world doesn't feel entirely open. It feels like you are boxed in between colossal mountains and rivers, forced to travel up and down road ways. There are a few exceptions, from time to time you will stumble upon caves to explore or it will open up to a forest worth checking out.
Truth be told, this game isn't for everyone. There's a lot to like and equally as much to dislike. The combat and companionship really shines but the outdated feel of the exploration and a handful of minor annoyances really add up throughout the game. The story seems pretty intriguing, but it gets lost in spending so much time trying to figure out what you're doing and random npc's harassing you everywhere you go.
