I am an avid reader, and I read most anything. But this has got to be one of the worst books I have ever read. Notwithstanding the fact that it is incredibly long, it is convoluted and at times hard to follow, different narrators addressing different characters. It remains depressing and heartbreaking from start right to the very last pages. Unnecessarily sad and horrid at times I felt. Unrealistic huge fortunes somehow having been made by all of the friends. Don't know why I even finished it. Definitely don't know where all these "brilliant " reviews come from.
