"The Acolyte" had its moments with Lee Jung-jae delivering a solid performance and some engaging fight scenes, but overall, it fell short. Manny Jacinto's character started off promising but ended up underwhelming and sidelined. I was quite interested in this era of Star Wars, I was almost immediately disappointed by the lack of depth in exploring the times and the reliance on typical, uninhabited planets. We had two episodes which were practically the same, only differing in context and a few extra scenes. This "huge" plot point was incredibly lackluster - I fail to see why Torbin struggled so much with Guilt.
The most interesting characters were very quickly killed off, mostly for shock value since Leslye seems incapable of delivering any kind of twist in her writing. Kelnacca was used constantly in marketing material and I was excited for the first live action Jedi Wookie, once again a missed opportunity as Kelnacca had 5 minutes of screen-time, 3 of which he was a fresh corpse. Carrie-Anne Moss received the same treatment, absurd.
The portrayal of the Jedi felt off and didn't align with established lore, which was disappointing. Amandla Stenberg's characters lacked depth and emotional range, making it hard to connect with her, if Osha and Mae's clothes were different or Mae didn't have a mark, I'd honestly struggle to tell the difference, they felt like the same character.
Ultimately, while the show had its highlights (fighting and choreography), it didn't fully capitalize on its potential, leaving much to be desired in terms of story and character development and it's inability to tie loose ends or give context, I find it highly unlikely this show will be renewed for a second season due to the mostly negative reception.
I really wanted to like this show, but I couldn't connect with any of the characters, the lines these poor actors had to spout were cringy and cheap.
