Brilliant acting from Hopkins, but nothing interesting happens, and it doesn't go anywhere. It is really a study of one man's oddness - which is not really very interesting. Give me "Far From the Madding Crowd" any day.

Great acting qnd reasonable screenplay, especially Erin and Harper, but Lena leaving Erin alive on the mountain was so silly I nearly gave up.

Anti men, most of whom are shown negatively.

William wasn't very passionate, was he? Several times he could and should have given her a hug and kiss. I found that odd. And he never told her he loved her ......

Yes, it can be sentimental, but why not. Family sagas are usually heart-warming, and the characters and storylines are well done. Brilliant acting, including by the kiddies, and the music isn't half bad either. Almost as addictive as "Heartland", which is praise indeed.

Amybeth's McNulty's performance as Anne is probably the most sustained, stunning, sublime and indeed magical that I have ever seen. She makes her astonishing and beautiful character completely believable and this series totally addictive. The author of "Anne of Green Gables" created a masterpiece of love and imagination, and this production does it full justice. The way it shows an extraordinary girl, the best and worst of people, the social mores of the time and children growing up is just wonderful. The rest of the cast, the period setting, the storylines and not least the music are also beyond excellent. This is a masterpiece of television.

Original, atmospheric, unusual and beautiful setting, brilliant acting from all the cast, very interesting connection with the Indian reservation. Not sure what else Robert Taylor has done, but he was made for this role. This is something I can watch again and again after a year or so interval.

Utterly brilliant. Up there with "Band of Brothers" as one of best ever tv series. Martin Sheen's great masterpiece, but all the cast are just perfect.

Totally brilliant, but a few disappointments: 1) Beth swallowing dozens of capsules and falling off the chair was silly. 2) I believe she would in real life have repaid Mr Shaibel the $10. 3) I do not believe she would have got drunk before facing Borgov, even if she is an addict/alcoholic. 4) It was sweet when Borgov hugged her at the end, but it was crying out for her to say: " I expect you'll beat me next time." or "I look forward to our next game." But many moving scenes. Especially clever was not to make Methuen a hell hole. The staff were actually nice, especially the young black who gave her a hair thing. Alma, Benny, Borgov and of course Beth were awesome, as was young Beth, a quite stunning performance from a young girl. It is indeed a masterpiece. PS Mr Shaibel's obvious love for Beth made me cry, just as it did Beth.
