All the way five stars for Episode IV "Meth"
Bravo for her courage to walk into the most dangerous conflict zone; interview face to face with Narcos and Drug Lords (they are not ethnic rebel leaders in my POV) You might notice in "Meth" that she could not travel into WA controlled area nor interview the power grabbing Burmese military. One of her short-cut interviews about child soldiers and drugs is real life danger. It is not acting. None of these are actors.
As a person who grew up in Burma; I have seen people thrown into jail just even speaking up about those issues.
Fox and her counter parts clearly explained how flow of drug is a major power play in this region. It is disgusting and the episode highlights how Burmese military, ethnic rebels, traffickers and drug king pins take advantage in this part of world. I wish a little more time and details showing flow of precursor chemical and Chinese chemists involved in cross nation drug runs.
If I am not wrong, "Meth" was filmed and edited before Rakhine conflict so did not have a chance to discuss how business of drugs, human rights abuses and forced migration all intertwined . Some experts and UN even called it out as crime on humanity "Genocide"
Hope she and producers follow up more in Burma since I feel she really concerned about Burma. Especially in these dark days of the coup.
Editing and presentation is not PBS Front Line nor CBS 60 minutes. They did the best for given limited time 40 minutes to touch all bases. I love Fox's raw and real life candid personal experience. It touches my country, real life drug problem across world from user, middle men to powerful drug loads.
Again Bravo Amaryllis and crew!!! Job well done.
