Mewli Paws

I had just finished watching a week’s worth of holiday shows w my sister & was bored to death. Cookie-cutter Christmas Rom-coms (yawn) and Santa Clauses ad nauseum. I came upon this show after she left and let myself enjoy 3 satisfying nights of real storytelling. No, it’s not a warm and fuzzy holiday show, but it depicts the complexities of honest family life (even though set in Europe w. Spanish subtitles.) Didn’t matter- I got lost in the messy perfection of what it means to live and love throughout the decades (at Christmastime) with the tangled relationships family life brings. I absolutely loved it.

I thought it was a good story w/ good acting (Clooney as a man with a terminal illness is perfection.) But, I couldn’t help be jarred by some of the unrealistic things in the movie ... first, scenes in the outdoor arctic. I just kept saying “no way” until I was ruining it for myself. And the “Sweet Caroline” while undertaking a serious outside the spaceship maneuver that their very lives depended on...that’s where I just was pulled out of the story, instead of being pulled into it. So, given that I sit down to watch a movie to be pulled into it and out of my own world, this didn’t do that.

Liked it well enough- there’s so much violence and gore in the popular cable series. The only thing is, every time the character of Hope is onscreen I cringe. She is either overacting or a bad actor or just has a poor storyline - her facial expressions drive me nuts. I can do one ep at a time just b/c of that. If I binged I’d have to jump out a window.
