Surprisingly enjoyable action movie. Most important reason is the obvious chemistry between all the characters most especially the 3 main characters (Mason, Claire and Sancho, although stretching it for Claire) They captured your attention so you are invested in their stories, the primary purpose of any movie is to get the viewer to care about the characters, to “want” to keep watching to know how the characters stories are resolved this movie delivered that to the final credits. Also it was really great to see how John Cena has evolved and matured as an actor. He really made his character human, both heroic and flawed. Bravo. The story was interesting and oddly believable. A truly rare thing for an action movie, which are usually inane stories, with grunting, unintelligible, sophomoric dialogue just thrown in between the fighting, maiming, killing, gun battles sequences. This movie had humor as well as an interesting story.
I do have one major complaint the “sexy”, ridiculously inappropriate and just plain useless, ugly costumes on Claire the supposedly “serious, hard hitting, world famous journalist. She looked like a 14 yr old girl’s idea of sexy jungle attire. I would be really surprised if in any village in the jungle/rural areas of South America that they couldn’t find Claire a pair of cargo pants or shorts and a tee shirt that fit her, rather than Continually falling off her shoulders. I found her ridiculous costumes distracting and extremely annoying, definitely diminishing her credibility and losing my interest in her character. She should be grateful to her male costars who constantly saved her from being a wasted character. A young male journalist would have definitely been a better casting choice. She was just foolish and not believable as a journalist or a romantic interest. I still give the movie 4 stars and would watch it again.
