Yesterday I watched Maidaan in a theatre although not an IMAX. It was a good sports movie with a lot of facts but also a lot of glitches and tweaks taken in the name of creative freedom. But still it documents the golden touch of Mr S A Rahim who revolutionised Indian football in the decade ,from 1952 to 1962. Such was his organisational strength that he could make a stopper back play in the centre forward position in crucial games. The Asian games in 1962 where India won the gold is well documented emphasizing the horrible adverse circumstances in which the feat was achieved which has never been duplicated ever since. Children of the present generation would not enjoy it, according to me. But if you can watch as an Indian, rising above the parochial mind-sets, then go for it. It will leave you with a chest full of pride.
