Many of the quotes from this story are poignant and often remarkable. The problem is that the story is somewhat like following the journals of multiple lives and finding the common thread between them all.
It is unusual, but I find that having read the book before seeing the movie made the movie that much better for me. It made me recall quotes that might have, or more likely, would have been lost in the audio-visual presentation.
The story touches on tender social issues and presents a semblance of a counterbalance in subjects like abortion. The movie is well worth watching but worth so much more if you’ve read the book. It certainly addresses multiple aspects of society while masking strong political feelings by weaving them in to a plot. If you are a thinker, you will be left thinking about the Cider House Rules for a long time.
