Loved it. I've watched a whole bunch of TV shows and movies lately and, unfortunately, due to my waning attention span which, I believe, is a side effect of the generation i'm a part of, I could barely get through them without reaching for my phone and scrolling mindlessly on social media. This film captured my attention right from the beginning and kept it throughout, which, honestly, was a shock to me. For that, it gets 5 stars.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Haven't read the book, don't have any particular interest in any of the actors- mainly watched cos I haven't seen spouse in anything since the Suite Life so was mildly curious as to what he was up to these days. But yh there were some really funny moments. I thought I'd be cringed out after watching the first scene, seeing sprouse with tattoos, fighting, all macho, etc but once I adjusted i found it believable. I had no idea this was a book serious until after watching the film but now I will read the book to compare.

Don't get me wrong. There were some parts I struggled with such as the narration of the Dear Sugar letters over really important moments (I had to rewind one scene 4 times cos I kept missing what was said in the letter as what was happening on screen was so distracting) but overall I adored this show. Sad its over. As someone who's lost a parent in my late teens I really related hard to what young clare was going through and think the actress did an incredible job at portraying such an impossible experience. Katherine Hahn is incredible, of course, though some dislike clare's character. I mean, she is a mess, but fundamentally she understands the human connection and that's why people trust Sugar.

I haven't read any of the classics and have only heard talk of 'Helen of Sparta/Troy' or 'Odyseus', etc. I watched this purely for entertainment and thought it would be cool to brush up on history while I was at it. I thought the whole story was ridiculous! From the moment Paris has the audacity to go into Menelaus house and steal his wife while he was away. I hated Helen and Paris. Most selfish characters in existence. Paris somehow redeemed himself in my eyes by the end but Helen got more ridiculous as time went on. I finished the series cos you do end up getting invested but I don't think I've ever shouted at a screen more than while watching this.
