Although I generally liked this movie, it starts out on a good dramatic note then turns somewhat silly. Julie Christie is excellent as the mother of a monster.

Forget the themes of death and escaping death. Watching Jeff Bridges navigate the aftermath of a devastating plane crash is worth the price of admission. Bravo!

Bold. Really pushes the envelope .

Eddie Murphy is extrodinary as Mr. Church. The movie is nice but cliche. Ignore that and watch Eddie Murphy.

Young people should watch this film just to see what it was really like to be free in America.

The entire cast is outstanding! The story is top shelf! I've seen it numerous times, always feeling the impact of a beautifully told brutal story.
