Massive fan of the original trilogy and whilst inspired by Tolkien this is NOT Tolkien, but a reasonable effort. Some unecessary noises from armchair critics including disappointingly from some of the cast are overshadowing things, so just enjoy this for what it is, its entertainment, not politics! Having said that, the acting is good from some of the cast whilst woefully bad from others, the casting could have been better so the mega expense of this production is clearly invested on effects and not acting ability. The effects are visually stunning so best viewed on a large screen. It's hard not to keep comparing with Tolkien's original work and if you do this then expect some disappointment (for the purists out there). As for me, the first couple of episodes were an enjoyable couple of hours. For what it's cost, maybe it should have blown me away... well it didn't but I do look forward to what's to come. I'm intrigued to find out who 'the stranger' is?
