Show concept is fantastic. Great effects, great mystery and good family watching. I wish the character writing was better. I don’t love any of the characters because they’re not particularly smart or interesting or funny; there is no focus on their real creativity, backstory beyond trauma, or personalities. This series could be stranger things level good, but the character writing blows it. And that’s if you ignore the major plot fail at the end of season one. There seems to be no difference in age or experience between the characters, which makes them all seem naïve and unlikely. Or perhaps there should be some backstory explanation as to why they would do what they did with Ellie and the crown. Ugh. Until then, there were just disappointing moments for every character you don’t quite love. After the crown giveaway plot fail laziness, we are just finishing it because the concept is really, really smart, even if the characters clearly aren’t.
