GREENLIGHTS by Matthew McConaughey is a fun, laughter, adventure-filled memoir about who McConaughey truly is and how he got to be this person we feel we know. McConaughey opens this book with a warning to readers that this is not your typical memoir. Yes, we go into his past and all the moments that make up a memoir, but, as in his own words, "it's a love letter. To life."
The stories that McConaughey told gave me all the right feels. I learned things about this man that I never knew. I felt as though I had become part of his inside jokes and learned who this star truly is and how hard he had to work to earn his name in Hollywood. McConaughey is known for getting personal during interviews, but this book takes "getting personal" to a whole new level. He has a way with his words and storytelling skills that creates this burning desire inside of you to pack your bags and see the world -- float down the Amazon river, wrestle a village man, and, at the end of your adventures, find your soul and spirit.
I rate this book five out of five. GREENLIGHTS is a book that everyone should read. It makes you look back on your life and see all of your GREENLIGHTS. It helps you understand why you had a YELLOW LIGHT or a REDLIGHT at that moment in your life and allows you to see the GREENLIGHTS coming. It allows you to laugh at the past and cry for the future. It requires you to slow down and see the things around you while you wait for that light to turn.
