The purity and wholesomeness of this movie won me over. The chance to spend an hour in the 70’s, with the music, the innocence of adolescents, relive their angst about boys, sex, friendships…it is like time travel for the older generation. Even if you can’t relate to the trials and tribulations of young teenage girls, you might be able to revisit the discomfort of trying to fit in in a new school, with new friends who sometimes disappoint you, and a religious identity that is too confusing and too contentious to adopt. You might realize how great this age was, and how quickly it passed, and all we have left is movies like this that recreate the short-lived poignancy of this age…even if just for an hour.
