3 stars for being a step up from the forgettable film (2010) but Below average nonetheless.. here is my take: Overall, I feel Netflix is continuing its trend of botching up the Fantasy genre; like it did with Witcher; creative differences; storytelling aside; Watching this series it feels Netflix does not respect the source material and the manner of OG storytelling. 1. THE SETS - feel unimpressive - excess use of CGI and obvious green screens projects the Avatar world as a rich but fake experience. 2. THE BENDING - is a step up from the 2010 movie; i understand that the bending animations in the OG show was limited by its time but this show respects and escalates the bending.. earth, air and fire bending are stunning.. water bending is average; however i recognize special effects with water are the most difficult to portray 3. THE STORY - a MASSIVE LETDOWN! Of course we will benchmark it against the much loved OG series and it disappointed in every way; the script, dialogues was below average; the past context of the AVATAR world was served as a full course within 20mins of the premiere while it should have been bit by bit; world building was botched up; the story is super rushed; like the episode of Omashu crammed at least 3-4 eps of OG series spread throughout S01 and S02 making it a confusing timeline. Overall the story and dialogues make the show progress inorganically and non linear. 4. THE CHARACTERS - AVERAGE portrayal; I appreciate the character selection & inclusion of Asian and indigenous characters; but again the script and dialogues let them down; The character development of the 3 leads and their friendship does not seem organic at all; the motivations and purpose seem superficial. And this goes for all characters. For example Suki shows her real face early on; totally taking away the wholesome moment when Sokka and her meet later and we have a goofball scene where he does not recognize her; I feel these small things are crucial for character development. The only characters faithful to the original portrayal were Zuko and Iroh. 5. THE PACING - runs at so much hurry compromising all the aspects mentioned above.

A courageous movie! A reality not many would be willing to potray in commercial cinema.. PROS: 1. Concept.. concept.. concept.. Bollywood cinema has really come of age in the past decade.. the torchbearer being Ayushmann.. 2. Performances: Ayushmann.. not much more needs to be said.. a worthy performance.. probably not his best.. The supporting characters were good too.. especially enjoyed Maanvi's Dad's performance.. However, This film is Vaani Kapoor's.. The lead protagonist.. and boy has she pulled it off! The range she showcases is fantastic.. The chemistry the lead pair potrays is smooth, organic.. nothing feels forced 3. Camera work: Great portrayal of scenes, ambiences 4. Music: Kalle kalle is stuck in a loop now.. CONS: 1. At just under 2 hours, the films seems rather tightly edited; especially the First act. 2. Comedy sequences.. fall flat in some scenes 3. Dialogues.. Writers could have put some more thought into writing punchier dialogues Overall, Even attempting this idea is a Class Act.. Kudos to the cast and crew.. Balancing romance, comedy with a novel social issue in a tightly edited film was always a tightrope.. Cheers!!

Easily one of the best Hindi movies of this year.. A Netflix original.. Literally and rhetorically..typical rom-com but uniquely presented.. nailed it.. tight script.. great dialogues.. Just the right dose of drama.. hilarious without being goofy.. the lead pair is fantastic.. angira dhar is a genuinely good find.. hats off! the chemistry between Ratna Pathak and Supriya Pathak is fab.. Felt genuinely lifted after watching this movie.. :)
