I am from South Louisiana near New Orleans and definitely can relate to this movie. Food is not just food here. It's an expression of love and a relationship to be shared. Like a fine wine, it takes time and effort to really get the flavors and taste to reveal themselves. It's an experience which I think it very well portrayed in this movie.
