A beautifully shot and written show, it truly works as a spiritual successor to the film we all loved. While I think it had trouble getting off the ground and establishing the expansive yet intensely tight-knit world of professional sports, the show does a great job of balancing the dramas of inequality with the excitement of sports media. And D’arcy Carden is at her absolute best here—she’s a perfect bombshell, carrying a lot of the show’s complex relations to femininity in a world before “modern feminism.” Would be shocked if she was left off the Emmy short list
