Firstly for a horror film to work you have to feel something for the protagonist which I didn’t. I thought she was American until my girlfriend told me she was Irish. I have read the explanations about the film but that doesn’t make it any better. Kinnear’s performance is excellent and the special effects certainly rivalled Carpenter’s The Thing. Out of a not packed cinema at least 3 people walked out. We were both when we could trying to stifle our laughter (not a good sign for either a drama or horror film). We had a bit of a laugh with the couple next to us who also thought it was both funny and dreadful. And despite the fact it is a man writing this review both my girlfriend and the woman next to us were laughing in parts and at least one of the people who walked out during the film was a women. If you are supposed to be tackling misogyny you shouldn’t be making people laugh in all the wrong places.
