Well done with great locations, but somehow it lacked atmosphere. The story felt rushed.

This is a kid's film masquerading as one for adults. I would have loved it when I was 14. As a harmless way of passing a Sunday evening it was OK but left me feeling like I had been cheated. Over the top stereotyped goodies and baddies straight out of Roald Dahl. I wondered why some great names agreed to appear in this light romp. I wonder even more why the critics seem to think it is so great.

Disappointed. I dont think I could have followed the story if I hadn't read the excellent book. There was no sense of time passing and the script was pretty heavy handed in order to understand Henry's dilemmas. We can look on this with hindsight knowing he had nothing to worry about but having no male heir such a short time after the wars of the roses must have been terrifying. Despite Elizabeth 1st's long reign the Tudor name was gone in one generation, so its a shame Elizabeth did not have the same urgency to reproduce. Excellent costumes and settings and cast but that wasnt enough.
