I've been a Metroid fan since the day I was born. My first metroid game was Metroid Fusion, when I was 4 years old. After that, I played zero mission, the prime series, super metroid, and AM2R (simply because the original is a bit of a product of its time). Metroid has always held a special place in my heart, and it was amazing news to hear about this game's release.
I've played about an hour of it now, and I can say with 100% certainty, that Samus is BACK. This is the modern sequel we've been waiting for. The controls are snappy, Samus moves very fluidly, and the combat is fun and tough. The EMMI adds an incredible suspense to the game just like the SA-X in Fusion. I can't wait to play this game more, thanks Nintendo.
(P.S. I know I praised this game but I do have one small critique about it. The backgrounds have a little too much going on and it can kinda be distracting from everything else haha. Thats probably just a me thing tho.)
Edit: I've finally beaten the game, and I can truly say it was an amazing experience. The story was beyond phenomenal. I've always loved metroid lore and the final boss made my jaw drop. I hate reading the negative 1 star review comments because they all say the same thing: "the game is too hard, I'm bad at it". I will agree though, this is the hardest metroid to date, but I think that's why I love it. The other metroids felt a little too gimmicky. Boss fights were essentially how fast can you spam missiles. Dread has a lot more to it. I really think the boss fights in this game were challenging and fun. Overcoming them and learning their patterns was great. The final boss especially, man what a great boss fight. An amazing end. Very good job nintendo.
