I find it interesting to read others' reviews here....people who are critical of the series often make comparisons to the Hollywood film with Matt Damon. Alright; but they're completely different approaches. REviewers have condemned the characters of Dickie, Ripley, Marge and Freddy, some characterising them as facile, boring and unlikeable, thin and dispicable...of course they are; that's their charcater defined as Highsmith intended. If one wishes to view entertaining characters look at every other character in the series, particularly Policia Inspector Pietro Ravini beautifully played by Maurizio Lombardi. Every other character in Ripley (other than the four) have a career, are contributors to society, have talent and abilities, are resolute and determined, have clearly defined morals and beliefs which makes them truly real, even Carlo. The main characters, the "four", as Highfield designed, deserve only our contempt.
