Outstanding . Shows the grip the RC Church had in Ireland so much that parents sent their pregnant unmarried daughters to convents and the Irish state did nothing Wonderful acting and filming Sad story of how Ireland became a fiefdom of the Vatican after independence. I lived in Roscrea where Philomena went to a convent.

Misho Katulic is spot on. A boring, pretensious, film with a boring actor, Pitt, stoney faced and uttering nonsense. The lines he said at the end had me laughing out loud. But the audience in Toronto was as usual, lapping up this nonsense. To compare it to Conrad's Heart of Darkness is well, nuts. Also far too long. Needed an editor. It was 'stunning' sleepmaking slop. And as Katulic points out, full of scientific errors. Don't waste time and money seeing it.
