I just finished watching Darwin's Dame, and honestly I have some mixed feelings. The combat is really interesting, due to the sigils that each player possess. I didn't really have any issues with pacing either. However, the main thing that bothers me is that characters seem to flip sides way too easily. Whenever Kaname meets a new person, he fights a battle with them, and they just suddenly switch sides. It feels like *snap! now your on our side and we have no trust issues at all! Although this often happens in shonen shows, what happens in Darwin's Game is just enough to bother me. Another thing *spoilers ahead!* that I believe wasn't properly handled was the whole thing about the treasure hunt game. Kaname's team had found out the code for the diamond ring, so Rein was trying to figure out what it was used for. She used her sigil, "Laplace", on herself to look "inwards". After a super cool animation, she finds that the code represents the year and month when Darwin's book, On the Origin of Species, was published. Now, after this, we expect that the answer will have something to do with this book and how it somehow ties into the D Game. Instead, Kaname just enters the code into the only place that accepts 6-digit codes and wins the game. They had an opportunity to tie this little code into the bigger picture of the game and reveal a bit more about the creator in the process. Instead we were left with an unsatisfying ending.
Darwin's game is a great show if your just in for some cool combat (there's a bit of fan service in it as well), but it doesn't do well in terms of morals and philosophical meaning.
I hope this review helped and enjoy the rest of your day!
