I really tried to give this show a chance, because I wanted so badly to have representation. Instead, all I got were whiners and complainers in a gentrified ‘hood of LA. We get it, “it’s expensive.” All the important generational traumas and major talking points of Latin cultures were completely missed. There’s more LGBTQ+ representation, than actual Latin-American representation. Also, writing! Why did I get annoyed by the Spanglish? The actual movie Spanglish did a better job. The blend of the languages doesn’t have to feel so ‘forced.’ Also, the actual cultural is beautiful and strong in adversity, but somehow gets overshadowed by all the writing based on self interest.
