Reviews raving about the performances of Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman are spot on. Both draw the viewer into the pain and dignity of their (and undoubtedly many other performers of that era’s) Black experience. Boseman’s performance is so spellbinding that at one point a scene change actually made me jump! If both don’t win Oscars they’ll have been robbed.
